‘This you should go in your speech …’
‘Very funny.’
‘Should have gone to Vegas.’
‘Jake wanted here.’
‘So did she … which means we should have gone to Vegas.’
‘Easy enough to keep apart.’
‘Can still see us.’
‘It’s a big beach.’
‘In a small town.’
‘Sure they can keep apart for a weekend.’
‘Only one pub though’
‘They might go somewhere else.’
‘Doubt it … karaoke tonight.’
‘Fuck.’
‘Yep.’
‘It’ll be okay … I can handle it.’
‘Until she starts to sing.’
‘Hopefully they won’t let her … or the machine breaks.’
‘She’ll sing anyway, part of her duties … and yours.’
‘I ain’t singing.’
‘You’ll have to if she does.’
‘No chance.’
‘What song do you think she’ll pick?’
‘Dunno … something angry.’
‘Don’t blame her.’
‘Hey! You’re meant to be on my side.’
‘You’re the one who fucked it up.’
‘Yeah, yeah.’
‘Never know … all this might give her second thoughts.’
‘Doubt it.’
‘You sure.’
‘Yeah … it’s all done … found out yesterday.’
‘Sorry to hear that.’
‘Me too.’
This fictional short story was written for a 50 Day Project organised by the artist Amanda Billing. I get 45 minutes to an hour (not the project’s rules, it’s just about the time I have right now) to write a story, sometime between 4.30am and 5.30am. After that, the day is no longer mine.
N.B. The sketch image for this short story was created using AI (at best, I can draw a half-decent stick man). The words are all mine.
