Date and location I made this picture:
It was January 9, 2021 at Nest Fest, held at Black Barn Vineyard in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand.
What is it about this picture that has meaning or importance for me:
It was the best day of the summer of 2021, yet it also felt the strangest in that much of the world was in lockdown or under domestic restrictions. We were pretty free, and so the festival went ahead and 4,000 people had a blast. The thing is. I think the joy that swept through Black Barn Vineyard that day was almost a ‘get it out of the system joy, because at some point we’re going to have to be confined to our homes’. I could have chosen so many other photos from that day. I just chose this one because I have really fond memories of being in this epic dance area, with some awesome music, and not a negative vibe in sight. People were in the moment, and it was beautiful. Sadly, Nest Fest is no more, but hopefully people can replicate the feeling of Nest Fest 2021 elsewhere (me included!).
